One of the top clashes in La Liga this weekend will see Real Betis host Atletico Madrid in Seville. This game finds Atletico in second spot, four places above Real Betis. Real Betis had a good campaign last season, finishing sixth in the league but 17 points behind Atletico Madrid. This isn’t a fixture that has really worked for Betis in recent engagements. They’ve beaten Atletico just once in 23 meetings. Betis however started their La Liga season with a win, beating Villarreal 2-1. That was their first win in four matches after their final three preseason games ended without a win. They managed an unbeaten finish to the league in their final two games and come here unbeaten in three league matches. Betis have however struggled defensively in their league matches, keeping one clean sheet in five. Both teams have scored in their last three matches and Betis failed to score in two of the five. In six league matches at home, they managed just one clean sheet.

Atletico Madrid will go into this game looking to rise back to the La Liga summit. They were deposed after Valencia’s win on Friday. In their opening league match, Atletico overcame a second half scare to beat Granada 3-1. That was a continuation of their unbeaten finish to their preseason engagements. It was also an improvement, having drawn their final two preseason matches. Atletico’s win on Match Day 1 of La Liga was their fifth unbeaten outing, having finished strongly last season. They however have no clean sheet in the last four matches. This is despite scoring two or more in each of their last five matches and all ending in over 2.5 goals. Both teams have scored in Atletico’s last four matches. Atletico have won each of the last four matches against Betis and are unbeaten in eight. In three of their last five meetings, both teams scored.
