Two giants of Turkish football do battle on Monday night when Besiktas host Galatasaray in the Super Liga. Yet, while there's no doubting the grandeur of these sides and the fixture's history, neither club is enjoying a vintage campaign. Galatasaray are sixth with 17 points after nine games, the same total as their opponents, who lie eighth. Besiktas have a better goal difference than Galatasaray but are behind due to their head-to-head record this season. While the hosts will be keen to settle the score with their bitter rivals, their form suggests doing so may be a tall task. Besiktas have failed to win five of their last six matches in all competitions, losing four times. The most recent defeat on that run was a 4-1 home beating suffered at the hands of Sporting Lisbon in the Champions League. After living dangerously with three successive games that featured five or more goals, Galatasaray have won their last two matches by 1-0 scorelines. They have won four and lost two of their ten away matches in all competitions this season. As we mentioned above, Galatasaray got the better of Besiktas earlier in the campaign, winning 3-1 at home. They failed to win four of the previous five meetings, with Besiktas claiming three wins in that series. Besiktas won their last four home games against Galatasaray. All four were recorded with a clean sheet. We get the feeling that whoever opens the scoring here will win. Back against both teams scoring.
