Benin vs Nigeria Prediction & Betting Tips - World Cup
by Devesh Jaganath | in World Cup Predictions
Week four in the CAF World Cup qualifiers will see Benin taking on Nigeria at Stade Felix Houphouet-Boigny on Monday evening. The Cheetahs are currently in third place in the group standings, while the Super Eagles are fifth.
Owing to their stadiums failing to meet FIFA and CAF standards, Benin will play their ‘home’ games in this competition in neighbouring Ivory Coast. The winners of each group will secure direct qualification to the 2026 FIFA World Cup, while the four highest-ranked group runners-up will progress to a playoff to decide which team will advance to the inter-confederation playoffs.

Benin - Nigeria: Form Analysis
Group C in the CAF World Cup qualifiers has been dubbed the group of death, and as it stands, any of the six teams in it are still in contention to claim the top spot. Benin are currently in third place with four points after three games, two points behind the current group leader Lesotho. The Cheetahs kicked off the competition with a 2-1 loss to South Africa before securing their first point, drawing goalless to Lesotho back in November. They then claimed an against-the-odds 1-0 victory over Rwanda last week, with Dodo Dokou scoring the only goal of the game just before the half-time break. That victory brought an end to an eight-match winless run that included four draws and four losses, dating back to March 2023. Benin are currently on a three-game losing streak against Nigeria and have only beaten the Super Eagles once in their last six encounters, dating back to 2008.
Meanwhile, Nigeria were tipped to challenge for the top spot in this group alongside South Africa but they are yet to find their best form. They are currently second-bottom in the standings with three points in as many games and are still in search of their first victory. To date, the Super Eagles have drawn all three of their matches with a 1-1 scoreline against Lesotho, Zimbabwe and most recently, Bafana Bafana last week. In between the World Cup qualifiers, Nigeria had a solid Africa Cup of Nations campaign and finished as runners-up to host Ivory Coast. They also played two international friendlies back in March, beating Ghana 2-1 at home before losing 2-0 to Mali on the road. Nigeria have qualified for six of the last eight FIFA World Cups with the exceptions being the 2006 and 2022 editions. As a result, the bookmakers have them down as the favourites in this match.

Benin & Nigeria Squad Analysis
Benin have no fresh injury concerns to report and after beating Rwanda in midweek, it would not come as a surprise if Gernot Rohr opted to keep his side unchanged. Steve Mounie, who is the captain of Ligue 1 outfit Brest scored his first goal in these qualifiers against Bafana Bafana back in November last year and is one to watch, and he will likely be joined by Troyes striker Junior Olaitan in the Cheetahs attack.
Nigeria are still without several big names for this match, including Napoli forward Victor Osimhen, who is sidelined due to injury. Samuel Chukwueze of AC Milan had a minor relapse of his thigh injury during training ahead of the match against South Africa and is flagged as a major doubt. Team captain Ahmed Musa and defender Kenneth Omeruo have not been included in the squad, while Nathan Tella requested to be excused.
