CR Belouizdad and Al Ahly will complete matchday four of the CAF Champions League this Friday at Stade du 5 Juillet 1962. The hosts are in third place in the group standings, while the visitors lead Group D. This match was originally listed to be played back in December but was postponed due to Al Ahly’s participation in the Club World Cup. The Red Devils will be returning to club competition following a two-month hiatus owing to several players’ participation in the Africa Cup of Nations. Before the international break, they had earned their first piece of silverware, beating Modern Future 4-2 in extra time to lift the Egyptian Super Cup. In this competition, Al Ahly are unbeaten with one win and two draws in their three games and are the favourites heading into this match. 

On the other hand, while many African nations saw their domestic league halted during AFCON, the Algerian Ligue 1 has taken no such break, which means that match sharpness should be no issue for Belouizdad. The Chababists claimed a solid 2-0 win over US Souf last weekend, which saw them maintain second place in the league table. They are on 31 points after 16 matches and trail MC Alger by five points, though they have played a game more. The hosts have been very good on their home patch this season and are unbeaten in their last seven in all competitions, including six wins and a draw. Belouizdad will also gain confidence from having held this opponent to a goalless draw in the reverse fixture and will be the fitter outfit, having had no breaks over the last few months.
