Belgium came into the 2022 World Cup as one of the favorites to win the tournament, and as such were also billed favorites to top this group. After taking the three points in their opening game, the bookmakers have tipped Belgium to do so yet again with odds of 2.02 to win the match. Morocco, who had a decent game against Croatia, are unsurprisingly the underdogs in this match and are offered odds of 6.00. Those looking to back a draw in this match can get odds of 4.3.

Belgium - Morocco: Form Analysis
Belgium managed a slim win over Canada, which was the reward for making use of the few chances that came their way in a game they were largely dominated. It was their first win in the last three matches and they will hope to improve on it as the competition progresses but the Belgians have shown glaring deficiencies in defence. They’ve managed just three clean sheets in their last 10 matches across all competitions. In five of their last eight matches, both teams have scored and in competitive action, they have managed just two clean sheets in 10 games. Belgium’s win ratio has also gone down in recent months; they come into this game with five wins in their last 10 matches. However, they’ve failed to score in just one of their last 10 competitive matches, which is to be expected with the wide array of attacking talent in the team. The Belgians have done well at the World Cup; the win over Canada was their eighth in 10 matches and also an eight consecutive group stage win at the World Cup. Belgium have only failed to score in two of their last 10 World Cup matches – against Argentina and France, but one would feel there is a lot of improvement needed after the Canada win. In that game, Belgium were restricted to just nine attempts, where only three were on target, and most of those came as Canada opened up as they chased the game. As for Morocco, they have a lot of positives from their last game as they prepare to take on Belgium for the fourth time in their history. This will be the second time the two nations meet at a World Cup tournament. In the first, in 1994, Belgium won 1-0, and the subsequent two were friendly matches, which Belgium won 4-0 in 1998 and Morocco won 4-1 in 2008. On to this game, Morocco carries an impressive run in defence, having kept five straight clean sheets. They are unbeaten in their last six matches, winning four and scoring two or more in four. Competitively, Morocco are unbeaten in the last five matches, and have lost only one in 10. They have six wins, four clean sheets and scored two or more in six of 10 competitive matches.

Belgium & Morocco Squad Analysis
Belgium’s current crop of players has for the better time in the last five years been termed the Golden Generation. Indeed, they have a talented pool of players in that team but there are concerns their time is running out and a new team needs to be built. It is hard to argue against that assumption. Even with their hugely talented team, they struggled against a well-organized Canada. Kevin De Bruyne admitted after being named the man of the match that he didn’t play well. It was an honest admission and they may face a similar reception from Morocco. Romelu Lukaku missed the opening game and may still sit out this one, but in Michy Batshuayi, they have a delivering forward though at times unreliable. Batshuayi has scored three times in Belgium’s last five matches and they will rely on his confidence at this point in time. At the back, Thibaut Courtois remains a cog. He saved a penalty against Canada and backed it up with more stops during the opening game and we expect him to shine against Morocco too. As for Morocco, their wing-play will be largely affected by the absence of Bayern Munich defender Noussair Mazraoui, who was injured in the first game. However, in Achraf Hakimi, they will still pose the danger on the opposite flank, but they will need Hakim Ziyech to do much better than in the opening game.

Our Belgium vs Morocco Prediction
It is expected Morocco will organize themselves in the same way they did against Croatia – defensively, but targeting counter attacks. They will target Belgium’s defensive weaknesses, and if their wing-play bears fruit we are backing Morocco to score. Belgium haven’t done well defensively in competitive action, but they’ve only failed to score once in 10 competitive matches, thus they have a chance in breaching the solid Morocco defence. Both teams scoring is a great possibility here and that will be our top pick.
