The defeat to France in the World Cup semis remains the only loss in 30 matches for the team that went on to finish third in the competition in Russia. Belgium have been one of the most consistent teams in the world in recent times and have gone unbeaten in their last five matches since the loss to France, with three clean sheets therein while they have scored 12 in the process and only conceded two goals. They beat Iceland 3 – 0 away in the first leg meeting and will be looking to hit nine points after this clash. They are favorites, with a 14 – match unbeaten run at home; the last team to beat them at home was Spain and that was over two years ago in a friendly. Iceland are winless in the last 11 matches and it will be very hard to bet on them getting anything from this match. Of the 11 matches, eight have been defeats and they have managed just one clean sheet in their last 15 matches – against Indonesia in a non FIFA friendly game. A good run in the earlier tournaments, including Euro 2016 saw Iceland banded in League A of the UNL but clearly this has been a forgettable experience for the nation and it is highly unlikely they will get anything from this group that also has Switzerland, who have already beaten them home and away.
