Belgium vs Austria Prediction & Betting Tips - Euro
by Steve Ashfield | in Euro Predictions
Belgium host Austria on Saturday June 17th. A win for the Belgians over the group leaders will see them go top of the group. The Red Devils currently have three points from one qualifying match played. That puts them three behind Austria who have won both of their matches. In third place are Sweden, also on three points but from two games. Estonia and Azerbaijan are both yet to earn a point. None of the sides in this group have already qualified for the play-offs so need a top two finish to qualify. Belgium come into this game having won their last two internationals and will be confident of making it three successive victories. Both of the wins Austria have achieved in this group have come on home soil and against the group minnows. Needless to say this is a much tougher assignment for them and avoiding defeat would be a great result for them.Limited Offer. Currently at DraftKings

Belgium - Austria: Form Analysis
The 2024 European Championships are very important for the Belgians. They didn't have a good World Cup and failed to reach the finals of the Nations League. The Golden Generation aren't getting any younger so these European Championships may be their last chance of glory. They kicked off this qualifying group with an impressive 3-0 win in Sweden. Romelu Lukaku was their hat-trick hero and he was on the scoresheet again four days later. That was when Belgium played Germany away from home and won 3-2. They got off to a cracking start in that friendly and were 2-0 up after just nine minutes. Belgium have an impressive home Euro qualifying record. They are unbeaten in 14 games over a period of 13 years. The last eight have all been won with 36 goals scored with only four conceded. They are unbeaten in their last five games against Austria, though three have been drawn. The most recent meeting was in 2011 when Belglum won 2-0.
Before that match, Austria did play at Belgium in a Euro qualifier back in 2010 and came home with a 4-4 draw. They must be yearning for the kind of results they had against Belgium between 1925 and 1959 when winning nine games in a row. It's been mainly downhill since then. Austria come into this game looking to make it five wins in a row. The highlight of those wins was a 2-0 home win over Italy in a friendly played last November. Their two wins in this group have come against the weaker sides and now comes their first real test. They will need to improve their away record if wantng to trouble Belgium. Four of their last six away internationals have been lost. Defeats have come against Denmark (twice), Wales and France. In Euro qualifiers, their last campaign saw them lose to Israel and Latvia.

Belgium & Austria Squad Analysis
The disappointing news for Belgium is that they will be without Kevin De Bruyne. He was injured during Manchester City's Champions League final win over Inter Milan. Aster Vranckx is expected to replace him in what will be his international debut. There are a total of six uncapped players in Belgium's squad. Could they be the next Golden Generation? A 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1 formation is likely to be employed by the Belgians. They'll be hoping for more goals from Romelu Lukaku who has scored four in his last two games for his country. He made it through the Champions League final fit but disappointed at Inter's loss. David Aalaba will be making his 100th appearance for Austria if selected. Michael Gregoritsch and Marko Arnautovic are expected to be up front for the Austrians who have no major injury problems.
