Belarus and Slovakia meet in this opening match of the United Nations League C. In what would have been a home match for Belarus has been moved due to the ongoing war in neighboring Ukraine. The match will be played in Serbia behind closed doors. Belarus would have been underdogs even if the match was in their country but now their task has been made more difficult. They have won their last three international matches but that can be misleading as they were all friendlies. Belarus have only won one of their last nine competitive matches losing the last eight in a row. They had a disastrous World Cup qualifying campaign where they finished last in their group with just one win in their eight matches. Belarus narrowly lost out on promotion to the League B last season as they fell short by one point to group winner Albania.

Slovakia will fancy their chances of getting their campaign off to a good start as they are ranked 45 in the FIFA rankings which is 48 places higher than Belarus who are in 93rd place. The rankings could be a good guide as Slovakia has been in fairly decent form, losing just once in their last five matches. Slovakia have proven difficult to beat away from home and have lost just three out of their last ten matches across all competitions. They had a very respectable World Cup qualifying campaign as they finished in third place behind group winners Croatia and Russia. Slovakia had only lost two of their ten group matches in the qualifiers.
