The German Bundesliga enters matchday 18 with defending champions Bayern Munich hosting 13th-place Werder Bremen. Holders of the Bundesliga title for the last 11 consecutive years, Bayern look like they’ll be doing battle with Bayer Leverkusen this year if they are to claim their 12th straight. The Bavarian giants trail Xabi Alonso’s side by four points in the standings. However, a game in hand advantage means they can cut that lead to just a single point if they are able to cash in. Bayern Munich come into this fixture off the back of a 3-0 home win over Hoffenheim last Friday, their fourth consecutive win across all competitions. Thomas Tuchel’s side have been rolling at the Allianz where they’ve posted a 7-1-0 record in the Bundesliga and a 2-1-0 record in the Champions League in the current campaign.

Werder Bremen returned to league play with a 1-1 away draw against Bochum last weekend. It marked only the team’s third away point of the Bundesliga season as they still seek their first road victory. The draw was also Die Werderaner’s third consecutive stalemate and pushed their current unbeaten run in competitive fixtures to four. After losing six of their first eight matches in the 2023/24 league season, Bremen have responded by making themselves a difficult side to beat. They’ve lost only two matches in their last nine but have often failed to fully convert as they have also seen five matches end in draws during that time. After a heavy defeat on their home ground to open the season to the Bavarians, Werder Bremen will be seeking revenge.
