A rescheduled matchday 13 fixture in the German Bundesliga sees second-place Bayern Munich looking to bounce back against 15th-placed Union Berlin. Bayern manager Thomas Tuchel will be demanding a strong response from his players after they lost 1-0 at home to Werder Bremen on the weekend. It was the first time that the Bavarian giants have failed to score in a home Bundesliga game in almost four years (65 straight games). The defeat was also Bayern’s second league loss of the season and a result which puts them seven points behind leaders Bayer Leverkusen. However, the defending champions can narrow the gap to four points with a win today given they have a game in hand advantage. The defeat snapped a four-game winning streak for Bayern Munich. They’ll now take to the Allianz Arena again where they have posted a 7-1-1 record with a massive 33 goals scored and only six conceded.

Union Berlin’s struggles continue after breaking into the top four last season and securing Champions League football. The increased intensity of the fixture list looks to have taken a toll on the squad as their domestic results have really dipped. They now hover just above the relegation zone in 15th with only a three-point lead over Mainz in 16th. The Iron Ones have begun to turn things around somewhat, earning eight points from their last five Bundesliga matches and losing only once. Their most recent result was a 0-0 draw away from home against Freiburg. The problems for Union this season haven’t been helped by their dreadful away form. The visitors’ last away trip resulted in a heavy 3-0 defeat to 14th-place Bochum and they now have to face off against the 11-time consecutive champions. Union have managed just a single win on the road this season across all competitions.
