Second placed Ipswich Town could go top of League One if winning at Barnsley who are fourth. The away side begin this game just a point behind leaders Plymouth who are home to Bristol Rovers the same evening. A win therefore could see them top the table but perhaps more importantly, it will see them go four points clear of third placed Sheffield Wednesday with only two league games remaining. The top two automatically go up to the Championship from which Ipswich were relegated in 2018/19. Ipswich come into this game in excellent form having won 11 of their last 12 league fixtures. The last three have all been won and ten goals put past their opponents. Their most recent win was a 3-0 victory at promotion chasing Peterborough United. Away form has seen Ipswich win four of their last five with just one goal conceded. Just one of their last ten away league fixtures have been lost.
Barnsley begin this match six points behind their opponents and with an inferior goal difference. A win will boost their chances of automatic promotion but anything else is likely to make the play-offs their only chance of promotion. They are already guaranteed their place in the play-offs so could still return to the Championship at the first time of asking. Barnsley have won 16 of their 21 home league games this season with just one draw and four defeats. They have won each of their last nine home league fixtures with 28 goals scored and at least two in each of them. the run has included home wins over both Plymouth and Sheffield Wednesday with seven goals soored. Earlier this month they lost away at Burton Albion but since then have earned ten points from 12 games. A double chance on Barnsley to win or draw is our suggested wager.
