Barnsley have struggled a bit in recent matches and will need to be at their best when they host a resurgent Chelsea in the fifth round of the FA Cup on Thursday. In their last game, the hosts drew 0-0 with Nottingham Forest in the Championship, making it the third game in five that they failed to score. As a result, four of their last five matches have produced under 2.5 goals. At home, Barnsley have three wins in five matches and scored in four of the five – a total of seven goals. they have conceded five goals in the last five matches. In the FA Cup, Barnsley have three straight wins at home, all with clean sheets. Their last home match in the FA Cup was against Championship promotion hopefuls Norwich. It was some sort of upset but eliminating Chelsea will be the biggest shock of the competition.
Chelsea’s rise after the arrival of new coach Thomas Tuchel continued with a 2-1 win over Sheffield United in the Premier League. They went all the way to the FA Cup final last year and of the teams remaining in the competition, none is on a better run than Chelsea. In the last eight FA Cup fixtures, Chelsea have seven wins and scored at least two goals in six.
