Barcelona are looking to secure their place in the top four when they host Real Sociedad on Monday. The two sides are separated by 20 points, fifth placed Sociedad on 54 points, while Barcelona are third after another tough season. Barcelona were officially dethroned last week by Real Madrid and have nothing much to play for but a strong finish. Blaugrana, who are set to end the season trophyless, are coming from their third defeat in four matches. Their Champions League elimination was followed by a bitter El Clasico loss before they recovered to beat Valencia. However, Barcelona were thumped 4-2 in their most recent game, away to Girona, officially ending their title defence. It hasn’t particularly been great for them defensively in recent matches. The hosts have one clean sheet in six matches, and in five of them, they conceded two or more goals. They however failed to score in just one of their last 33 matches. In the last 10 matches, Barcelona kept just four clean sheets.

Real Sociedad, on 54 points, are currently in the Europa League position, and that’s the best they can get. They will be hoping to win here to stay sixth, as Real Betis are lurking just behind them with 52 points. Real Sociedad responded to their first defeat in five matches by beating Las Palmas 2-0 at home in their last game. Sheraldo Becker’s goal added to Alex Suarez’s own goal in the game to see Sociedad bounce back after a 1-0 loss to Real Madrid. That win also handed Sociedad their first clean sheet in four matches, a stat to build on coming here. Erreala have a reason to stay optimistic coming into this game, as they have a good run away from home. In their last three away league games, they are unbeaten, with two wins. Real Sociedad have only lost twice in the last 13 away matches in La Liga. In that run, they won six times while both teams scored in eight.
