It’s the first El Clasico of the season and what a game it promises to be. League leaders Barcelona host second placed Real Madrid who have only lost one league match this season. Both sides drew at the weekend and Barca only lead on goal difference from their opponents. This is their game in hand on the rest of the league and they are already four points clear of third placed Sevilla. Barcelona drew 2-2 at Real Sociedad at the weekend, trailing 1-0 but also leading 2-1. The Spanish champions are undefeated in their last nine games and the weekend draw ended a run of eight successive wins. Home form has seen Barcelona without a defeat in their last 19 home league matches with the last 14 all ending in victories.

Real Madrid have only lost one league game this season. They could have gone top on Sunday but were held to a 1-1 draw by Valencia. That was a game they so nearly lost as a 90th minute Benzema goal was required to rescue a point. Madrid are unbeaten in their last 11 games since a 1-0 defeat at Mallorca. Only two of their last five away league games have ended in victory and they look like struggling in this game. Go for a Barcelona home win to take them three points clear at the top of La Liga.
