Barcelona - Real Madrid: Form Analysis
Barcelona rested a number of key players but still managed to beat Mallorca 1-0 at home on Tuesday. The Catalans fired 40 shots in that match, and although consistency in the final third is a concern, goals haven’t been a problem for Barca this season whenever they played the regulars.
That win meant Barcelona have now lost just once in the year 2025 across all competitions, winning 22 and drawing four matches. They have already won the Super Cup trophy, defeating Real Madrid, and are in contention for three more trophies.
Another silverware is on offer here, while they lead La Liga by four points over Madrid and are in the UEFA Champions League semis, where they face Inter Milan.

Madrid will hope to catch Barcelona off-guard thinking about the first leg of those Champions League semis coming in a few days. The Madrid giants crashed out of Europe with a demoralising loss to Arsenal, so fixture congestion isn’t a worry.
Coach Carlo Ancelotti could be a man under pressure as rumours circulate about him getting the sack if they don’t win here. Coming here on the back of consecutive 1-0 wins in the league, Madrid will know that they need to do more than three wins out of seven competitive games.
They were stretched by Real Sociedad in the last round, where only a late extra-time goal saved the blushes in a 4-4 second leg draw.

The biggest worry for the Blaugrana ahead of this match is the absence of talismanic striker Robert Lewandowski. The Polish striker is out because of a hamstring injury, robbing Barcelona of a player with 40 goals in 48 competitive club matches this season!
Coach Hansi Flick could still go for his 4-2-3-1 formation, although a slight shuffle to a 4-3-3 can’t be ruled out. The usual formation may see Barcelona line up with Ferran Torres as the lone striker, with Dani Olmo, Lamine Yamal, and Raphinha behind.
Only Raphinha and Torres have scored in double figures for Barca, taking out Lewandowski.
While that puts pressure on Barcelona, Real will hope their own talisman Kylian Mbappe finds his scoring shoes. He failed to fire when the sides met in La Liga earlier in the season and hasn’t scored in five club games. Mbappe was rested against Getafe, but will that free him?
Head coach Carlo Ancelotti is likely to go conservative and opt for a 4-3-3 formation. That could mean Rodrygo starting on the bench, with Mbappe, Vinicius Jr, and Jude Bellingham up front.
Eduardo Camavinga and David Alaba are out of contention for this weekend. That leaves Ancelotti with a decision to make on the position for Federico Valverde. He’s usually deployed at right-back to counter the swift attacks of Raphinha, but that will leave them light in the midfield to counter the likes of Frenkie de Jong, Pedri, and Dani Olmo.
