The World Club Championship takes place this week in Japan but unlike the World Cup, there aren't really that many who care much about it. The tournament has never really grabbed the love of the fans probably because of when it takes place plus the lack of really big teams in it. There's just one team from Europe taking part and that's Champions League holders Barcelona. They received a bye to the semi-final and will face either River Plate or Sanfrecce Hiroshima in the final if they can get past Guangzhou Evergrande from China. Guangzhou Evergrande beat Club America from Mexico in the quarter finals winning 2-1 but it was a real struggle. They were 1-0 down with ten minutes to go and needed a 93rd minute goal from Paulinho to get the win.  He's one of five Brazilians in the Chinese teams squad and the team has won the Chinese Super League for the past five seasons. They finished fourth in the last World Club Championship losing 3-0 to Bayern Munich in the semi-finals after beating Al-Ahy and then being defeated by Atletico Miniero in the third/fourth place play-off. Barcelona are of course the current European champions and a match for any team in the world. They have twice won this tournament and should get a comfortable win here before bidding to win a third trophy later this week.
