The Xavi Hernandez era is upon the Barcelona faithful as Barcelona host Espanyol in the infamous Derbi Barceloni in the La Liga. The hosts are currently placed at ninth place with seventeen points from twelve games while the visitors find themselves at eleventh place in the league with seventeen points as well but with thirteen games played. Barcelona come into the fixture with a disappointing 3-3 draw at Celta Vigo in La Liga. They have been a shadow of themselves in the current season and will be hoping that better things are on their way as club legend Xavi Hernandez takes charge of the first team as head coach. Barcelona, however, have a decent home run to back them with against their city rivals. They have won the last four home La Liga matches against Espanyol and also have lost just once in their last seven home La Liga matches.

Espanyol come into the game with a very encouraging 2-0 win over Granada before the international break. They have been a decent side so far after earning promotion to the La Liga and a survival campaign by the end of the season is highly likely. However, things are not bright when it comes to their away run. They are winless in their last six away matches in La Liga. Espanyol also have not beaten Barcelona in the previous eight meetings.
