Maltese side Balzan FC host Slovenian club NK Domzale for the return leg of the first qualifying round of the Europa Conference League. Balzan have one foot in the second qualifying round after a highly impressive 4-1 away win in the first leg of this tie. They now return home with the objective of preserving their three goal aggregate lead. The start of the league season is still two months away for the Malta-based club. Balzan have played in only one official friendly prior to the first leg of this tie, where they would draw 1-1 with Serbian side Radnicki. Last season saw Balzan finish sixth in the Malta Premier League and struggle to put up consistent results on home soil. They would go on to finish with a much better away record where they averaged 2.23 points earned per away match compared to just 1.31 per home match. 

Domzale has it all to do in the second leg of this tie. They’re likely looking at the scenario where they will have to go all-out attack right from the opening whistle if they are to have a chance. Domzale played in a number of preseason friendlies prior to the first leg although they struggled to put up positive results in those games. The Slovenian PrvaLiga starts just four days after this matchup but the Brigands will have to focus all of their attention on their Maltese opponents. The visitors are on a difficult stretch of form where they have now won only once in their last six fixtures including friendly matches. The good news for the Slovenian club is that they showed excellent consistency away from home in the domestic league last season. That should serve them well in this encounter where they will have to play at their absolute best to even have a slight chance at progressing.
