Auxerre vs Lyon Prediction & Betting Tips - Ligue 1

Round 24 of the French Ligue 1 will commence on Friday with AJ Auxerre starting things off by hosting Lyon at the Stade Abbe Deschamps. Auxerre are second from bottom with 15 points gained while Lyon are ninth in the standings with 35 points. Christophe Pélissier’s Auxerre are four points away from safety and need to start adding points on the board quickly. The Burgundy-based club returned to the top division this season after 10 years away and has found it rough with their successes few and very far between. They come into this game on a run of five without a win in all competitions. In the league, this woeful run stretches to 10 matches with seven of those being defeats. Auxerre have not won a single match all year with their last win in the league coming in October. After losing seven straight matches and conceding 20 goals, Auxerre have hit a sort of purple patch in recent weeks and have drawn their last two matches in the league with only one goal conceded. They drew 1-1 away to Angers with Matthis Abline’s first-half equaliser only their third in their last seven games in the league.

Olympique Lyon’s struggles are in the top half of the table where they are angling for European qualification next season. Laurent Blanc’s charges are six points adrift of fifth place which is a Europa Conference League qualifying spot. They have won 10 matches so far in the season and have suffered defeat eight times. Lyon’s strong point is their defence which has allowed 25 goals, a tally that is bettered by just four other teams in the top 10. They come into this match having won five of their last six matches across all competitions with one of those wins seeing them progress to the quarterfinals of the Coupe de France. Lyon defeated fourth placed Lens last time out 2-1 which was the fifth time in their last six matches that they had scored two or more goals in a match. In-form striker Alex Lacazette scored in the game and now has nine goals in his last seven matches across all competitions. Rayan Cherki scored the other goal and has now found the back of the net for the third successive match.
