You have to go back to 1962 for the last time that a country successfully defended the World Cup. It was Brazil who achieved that feat and the only oother country to do it was Italy in 1934/38 so you can see the massive task that current world champions Germany face in Russia next month. They had no problems qualifying winning all ten games in their group scoring 43 goals and conceding just four.and scored at least three goals in four of their five away matches. The Germans lost their last game, a 1-0 defeat by Brazil and that ended a run of 22 games unbeaten since being knocked out by France at Euro 2016. They have won seven of their last ten away games and as always seems to be the case when a tournament is around the corner, will be hard to beat here.

Austria failed to qualify for the World Cup finals finishing four points behind second-placed Republic of Ireland. They only won two of their home games in that group but have improved of late and are unbeaten in their last seven on home territory. That includes a 1-0 win over World Cup hosts Russia on Wednesday evening  Austria are unbeaten in their last seven home friendlies but this is Germany they are taking on and they have lost their last nine games against them, so go for the away win in this match.
