Australia W - Ireland W: Form Analysis
Australia have been to every edition of the Women's World Cup since 1995. They come into this one as favourites, to at least get off the group stages. Three times before, they've reached the quarter finals and Australia will target advancing further here. In the last World Cup edition, they didn't do so well, exiting in the last 16. However, they should be well prepared for this. They have a run of nine wins in their last 10 matches coming into this game. their only loss in that run was inflicted by Scotland. It was also the only time in 10 games that they failed to score. In eight of their last 10 matches, Australia have scored two or more goals. They have six clean sheets in the last 10 matches.
This will be the first major tournament for the Republic of Ireland's women's team and they land in a tough pool. Vera Pauw will be keen to make an impression with her team at the competition. They don't really take into this game a great run. In their last five matches, Ireland have one win. That win came in a friendly match, 3-2 against Zambia. Four times in their last five matches they've failed to score. Ireland have worked to do defensively; they have conceded two or more in three of four games. The only time these two nations met was in a 2021 friendly match. Ireland won that game 2-1 and will be hoping for a repeat here.
