The top two teams in Group B of the AFC Asian Cup lock horns on the final matchday of the group stage. First-place Australia have booked their spot in the knockout rounds with two wins from two and six points. Second-placed Uzbekistan are all but guaranteed a place in the last 16 as well after taking four points from the first two matches.

It’s been a fine tournament for Australia so far who are seeking their second ever AFC Asian Cup title and first since 2015. The Socceroos kicked off their campaign with a 2-0 win over India which was followed up by a 1-0 win over Syria in what was certainly a challenging match. The Syrians were able to frustrate Australia’s attack, allowing for only 10 total shots and only one on target. Still, Graham Arnold’s men were able to overcome and extend their winning streak to six matches across all competitions. Their strong form sees Australia as the oddsmakers’ current fourth favorites to lift the cup. The team’s only defeat in the last four months occurred in October of 2023 when they lost 1-0 to England.

Uzbekistan are looking to continue their strong pedigree in the AFC Asian Cup with a run to the final. They’ve participated in the last eight straight tournaments and this year’s edition would represent the sixth consecutive time that they have qualified from the group stages. Uzbekistan’s best finish came in 2011 where they finished fourth, representing the only time they have made it to the semi-finals. The White Wolves are certainly looking in the right type of form to make a deep run as they entered this competition on a six match unbeaten run with four wins. They’ve carried that over into Group B where they drew 0-0 with Syria before recording a convincing 3-0 win over India. Uzbekistan have been finding the net at will on their recent unbeaten run, netting 16 times in their last eight games.
