Only the top two in this group automatically qualify for Russia next season. Australia sit in third place and are three points behind second placed Japan and group leaders Saudi Arabia. That's despite being unbeaten in six games, the problem being they have drawn four of those games.  Only two of their six games have been at home though and on their travels they have drawn three and won the other. Their away game with the UAE was the one game they won with a 1-0 victory. Australia are unbeaten in their last nine home games and will be confident of making that ten but are unlikely to climb into the top two with both Saudi Arabia and Japan home to the bottom two sides in the table but Australia then host Saudi Arabia in what will be a crunch match. The UAE are a point behind Australia and know a win here will greatly increase their chances of making it into the play-offs but a loss will probably end their qualification hopes. They have won three and lost three so far  Four f those have been at home and they managed to lose two of them, away from home they won in Japan but lost 3-0 to Saudi Arabia. To win this game they will have to make history as they have never scored a goal against the Australian side in four games played against them. Australia are strong at home, know they just have to win this and can do so on a -1 handicap.
