The top two in this group automatically qualify but Australia are down to third behind Saudi Arabia on goal difference. There's a gap of two goals for Australia to make up so every shot is going to be vital in this match. Failure to finish in the top two would mean a play-off with the third place side in the other AFC group and then a possible clash with USA or Costa Rica so Australia will be desperate to finish the job off here and that means a big win over Thailand. The Australians are unbeaten at home in this group with three wins and a draw. The reverse fixture saw the two sides draw 2-2, a result that could prove very costly. Thailand are bottom of the group with just two points and have lost all four of their away games by an aggregate of 12-1. Australia should be able to get the win here, go for a -2 handicap as they chase the goals that might just get them to Russia.
