Gamweek six in the AFC World Cup qualifiers will see Australia play host to Palestine at HBF Park on Tuesday afternoon. Heading into the final gameweek of the second round of qualifying both these sides have already secured their places in the next round. Regardless of the outcome of this match, Australia will finish in pole position having won all five of their group-stage games so far and holding a seven-point advantage over their opponents in this match. The Socceroos have also scored 17 goals so far, which is the second highest in the competition behind Japan and South Korea, who have netted 19 each. However, perhaps the most impressive part of the Australian’s performance has been their defence, which has not conceded a single goal to this point. The hosts' only loss in their last 12 matches in all competitions was against South Korea in the Asian Cup semi-final, while they won 10 and drew one of the remaining 11 games in that period.  Australia have won both previous matches between these sides and are the bookies’ favourite in this one. 

Meanwhile, while Palestine cannot win the group, they will likely be fairly satisfied with their performance in this competition. They have taken eight points from their five games, including two wins, two draws and two losses, and are five points clear of third-placed Lebanon. Second place in this group will also give them automatic qualification to the 2027 AFC Asian Cup. The Lions of Canaan are currently on a three-match unbeaten streak (W2 D1 L0) in all competitions, while the only defeat they’ve suffered in their last six games was to Qatar in the round of 16 at the Asian Cup earlier this year. One of the major improvements made by Palestine in recent times has been their defensive solidity. In their last five matches, the Lions of Canaan have kept four clean sheets, including three in a row leading up to this match.
