Australia will hope to extend their dominance in the Asian region 2022 World Cup qualifiers when the campaign resumes. They are set to face Kuwait and while they should be the hosts, they lost that advantage due to Covid-19 and will be playing this game in Kuwait. Two points separate the two nations in Group B; Australia have 12 points, with a game in hand. This will be Australia’s first game since beating Jordan 1-0 in November 2019 and they head here with four straight wins and three clean sheets in the four matches. They’ve scored three goals or more in three of their last four matches and Jamie McLaren will be expected to lead the charge for goals here, having had a fine season with Melbourne City. He has four goals already in this qualification campaign. Australia beat Kuwait 3-0 in their earlier Group B meeting in October 2019, making it three straight wins over Kuwait and four unbeaten against them.

Kuwait, unlike Australia, have already played four official matches this year and will hope this and the fact that they are playing at home, works in their favor. What is sure to work in their favor is that with most of Australia’s players coming from clubs in Europe, the high temperatures will be an issue for them. They haven’t done well though even when playing at home, with the last seven home matches bringing forth just one win, against Chinese Taipei. Kuwait have scored a goal more than Australia and will hope to win this and go top, though having played a game more still means they are second favorites to finish top of the group. In their four matches this year, Kuwait have no win, just three losses and a draw and they’ve failed to score in two. In five of their last six matches, they’ve scored below two goals. Only thrice in their last 12 matches have they scored more than a goal.
