Australia have continued the good form that saw them reach the last 16 of the 2022 World Cup. They beat Ecuador 3-1 in a home friendly last Friday and now play them again. Australia took an early lead but only held the advantage for 11 minutes. A goal in the 32nd minute restored their lead and a third goal was added in the second half. That makes it three wins out of four for the Australians, the other being their 2-1 loss to eventual champions in their World Cup last 16 tie. Home form has been strong for the Australians with only Japan beating them in their last 14 games, a run that stretches back to 2019. 

Ecuador will be wanting to get a much better result than in the opening friendly. The defeat in the first match was their second in a row. Before the loss to Australia, they lost 2-1 to Senegal in their final group match in the World Cup. That group had started well with a win over Qatar and a draw with the Netherlands but losing to Senegal saw them have to return home. Ecuador have only won one of their last seven matches but aren't always easy to beat. The World Cup draw with the Netherlands was their ninth draw in 13 games. Their form has slipped though and an upbeat Australian side can get another win over them.
