Matchday three in the third round of the AFC World Cup qualifiers will get underway on Thursday with Australia taking on China at the Adelaide Oval. The Socceroos are in fifth place in Group C while the Dragon Team are bottom of the standings. Let’s get into the match prediction.

After an incredible performance in the previous round, where they posted a perfect six-for-six record, Australia have struggled to find top gear in round three. They have managed just one point over the first two games. 

That solitary point came via an underwhelming goalless draw away to Indonesia last month, which followed a 1-0 home loss to Bahrain five days earlier - a result that ended the Socceroos' four-match winning streak.

Nevertheless, the Aussies do enter this contest carrying an impressive home record, having only lost one of their last six games in all competitions, including four wins and a draw. 

Meanwhile, China got through round two by the skin of their teeth ahead of Thailand and are likely to struggle to progress any further unless they can find some much-needed improvement. 

The Dragon Team are one of only three teams left in the competition that are winless in round three, following back-to-back defeats to Japan and Saudi Arabia last month. Notably, China have already shipped nine goals in this round, seven of which came against Japan. 

The visitors are also winless in their last five away games in all competitions and conceded 11 goals over the period, while only scoring twice, both of which came in the same match.
