Matchday 15 in the German Bundesliga sees ninth-place Augsburg hosting fifth-placed Borussia Dortmund. After a terrible start to the 2023/24 campaign saw Augsburg post a 1-2-4 record after the first seven league fixtures. A change in manager would see Fuggerstädter recover, going on a six match unbeaten run with three wins and three defeats after the appointment of Jess Thorup. They saw that run come to an end last weekend with a 2-0 away defeat to Werder Bremen. Augsburg will now try to get back to winning ways as they return to the WWK Arena, a venue where they have been a difficult team to beat so far. The hosts have lost just once on home soil this season, a 2-1 loss to Darmstadt back in the beginning of October. Augsburg have taken seven of the last nine possible points on home soil with their most recent appearance resulting in a 2-1 win over Eintracht Frankfurt.

Borussia Dortmund come into this matchup off the back of topping their Champions League group and securing passage to the round of 16. BVB drew 1-1 at home with PSG, a result which extends the Black and Yellow’s winless run to four games. It was a game where both sides spurned a number of goal scoring opportunities with the two teams combining for a total of seven clear cut scoring chances. While they’ll be pleased with their performance in the Champions League group of death, Dortmund haven’t been overly impressive on the domestic front. They’ve now slipped to fifth in the standings with a 7-4-3 record putting them on 25 points. This has Dortmund five points behind Leipzig for a spot in the top four and 11 points off surprise leaders Bayer Leverkusen.
