Atletico Madrid are hoping to maintain their position in the top four in the Spanish La Liga when they host lowly Valencia on Saturday in the 26th round of matches. The hosts are third in the standings with 48 points while Valencia are 17th, with 26 points. Atletico Madrid come into this match unbeaten in their last seven matches in the league and defeated Girona 1-0 away from home in their last fixture. 1-0 wins have become synonymous with Diego Simeone’s men and when they score more than one goal a match it becomes some sort of breaking news, like when they put six past Sevilla earlier in March. With a difficult match with top four hopefuls Real Betis coming up after this, Atletico cannot afford to not get maximum points here.

Valencia have clawed their way out of the relegation zone thanks to their two wins in their last three matches. They are however not out of the woods yet as only goal difference gives them the edge over the teams in the bottom three. Ruben Baraja’s men have struggled on both ends of the field as they have kept just two clean sheets and have not scored more than one goal a match in this run. Against a robust defence like Atletico’s, they could even find it more difficult to find the back of the net. In their most recent game they beat Osasuna 1-0, for their second win by that margin in their last three games.
