In-form Atletico Madrid will host struggling Sevilla on Saturday in round 24 of the Spanish La Liga. Atletico come into this round unbeaten in their last seven matches in the league and sit in fourth place in the standings with 42 points. Sevilla on the other hand are without a win in their last three matches across all competitions and find themselves in 14th place with 25 points, just two above the relegation zone. Diego Simeone’s men are out of every other cup competition and can now fully focus on securing a place in next season’s Champions League. Their only defeat in their last nine matches saw them eliminated from the Copa Del Rey by rivals Real Madrid and since then they have gone five games without defeat, winning three and drawing two. As always, they have been hard to break down defensively and have conceded just two goals in this run and have kept three clean sheets. Despite their defensive solidity, they have been unable to dominate their opponents on the opposite end of the pitch and have not scored more than one goal in any of those last five matches meaning that an over or under 1.5 goals market should be considered here. Diego Simeone will not be able to call up the services of Angel Correa after the forward was red-carded in the draw with Real Madrid last time out. Jose Maria Gimenez could also miss out after he was withdrawn in the first half against Real with an injury.

Sevilla, despite being in 14th place in the standings, find themselves in the relegation picture and cannot afford to drop points going forward to avoid being drugged into a fight for survival heading into the final quarter of the season. Jorge Sampaoli’s men were beaten 3-2 by Osasuna last time out to extend their run without a win to three matches with back-to-back defeats. After losing just one of their opening seven matches in 2023, the Rojiblancos have gone on to lose four of their next eight matches across all competitions. And with this trip to the Wanda Metropolitano as well as a Europa League tie against Fenerbahce coming up next week, this topsy-turvy form could be set to continue. Sevilla will be without Fernando for this trip after the midfielder was red-carded against Osasuna. Jesus Corona, Loic Bade and Papu Gomez will also miss out through injury.
