Atletico Madrid vs Liverpool Prediction & Betting Tips - Champions League
by Steve Ashfield | in Champions League Predictions
The Premier League is all but won and the world title was landed last December. Now Liverpool turn their attention to holding onto the Champions League title they won last summer as they take on Atletico Madrid. Liverpool didn't have it all their own way in the group stages but ended up finishing top ahead of Napoli, who beat them away from home. The Reds continue to be in dominant form piling up some amazing statistics. Their win at Norwich City on Saturday took their unbeaten run to 14 league and cup games. Ignore the loss to Aston Villa in the EFL Cup when playing a youth side and they have gone 34 games since the away loss to Napoi. Both of their last two games in the Champions League have had under 2.5 goals scored in them and that stat applies to eight of their last 11 games in all competitions. The big scoring wins aren't coming that regularly at present and their last 15 games have only seen them score more than twice in a game on two occasions.
Atletico Madrid are fourth in La Liga and 13 points behind leaders Real Madrid. Their season looks set to be one where they have to try and confirm their place in next season's Champions League. That's not going to be easy as they are only three points above eighth place. Their current form isn't that inspiring with only one win in their last seven league and cup games. 24 league games have only produced 25 goals but just 17 have been conceded. In the group stages of this competition, Atletico finished second, six points behind Juventus. Again goals were sparce with eight scored and five conceded and four of their last five games had under 2.5 goals scored in them. That stat has also come up in seven of their last nine home games in the Champions League A bet on under 2.5 goals to be scored in this game looks a good wager to make.

Our Atletico Madrid vs Liverpool Prediction
Liverpool will be glad they are away from home in the first leg of this Champions League last sixteen tie. Atletico will not need reminding what happened to Barcelona last season in this competition and may dread a second leg at Anfield. Liverpool are in good form of course but the big wins aren't coming, more a case of continually finding a way to get a win. Atletico aren't consistent but never that easy to beat or score lots of goals against. A bet on under 2.5 goals in this is the one to make.
