Atletico Madrid plays host to Espanyol at the Wanda Metropolitano in this La Liga match. The home team are in 4th position with 57 points while the visitors are in 11th position with 39 points. Atletico Madrid are on a string of disappointing results and have not had a win in their last three matches, though two of those matches were in the Champions League. They currently occupy the last of the Champions League spots but are just three points ahead of the sixth place team. Atletico have won their last three home matches in the league and have lost just once in their last eight home matches across all competitions. After their win in the reverse fixture, Atletico are trying to complete the league over Espanyol for the third time under Diego Simone’s management.

Espanyol are on an excellent run in the league with just one loss in their last five league matches. Their away record is not as impressive as they have failed to win any of their last seven matches. Espanyol have a very poor record against Atletico and have lost seven of their last nine matches with their last win against them coming  in 2018. Their 2-0 win in 2018 was the first time Atletico had lost at their new home, the Wanda Metropolitano. Espanyol are attempting to join Levante as the only two teams to have beaten Atletico twice at their new home ground.
