Atletico Madrid are assured of staying in the top four this weekend but will want to consolidate their place there when they play host to Athletic Bilbao. The two sides hold serious top four credentials but at the moment it is Atletico who are there, in fourth place with 38 points while Bilbao have 32 points, in seventh place. Atletico have turned the leaf since their 3-1 loss to Real Madrid in the Copa del Rey. They go into this game unbeaten in three matches, all in the league, winning two. The Madrid side is actually unbeaten in five league matches and their only defeat in the last six was against league leaders Barcelona. In six league matches, Atletico have managed to score more than a goal in just one game. However, they have three clean sheets in their last four matches and only two of their last 10 league games have had over 2.5 goals.

Athletic Bilbao are coming from two straight wins, the most recent a 2-1 away victory at Valencia. Their recent run has been marred by inconsistency though they have three wins in the last four matches. Athletic Bilbao will go into this game on a somewhat unconvincing run in La Liga, having lost three times in the last five matches. They have two wins only in their last seven La Liga matches and failed to score in four of those. Athletic Bilbao have also failed to keep a clean sheet in their last five league matches, on two occasions conceding more than a goal. It has been even tougher away from home, with the team currently on one win in the last eight league matches on the road.
