Atlanta United will be at home to face Cincinnati on the second week of action in the Major League Soccer (MLS) this Sunday. The two sides had mixed results in the opening matches, with Atlanta winning away at Nashville as Cincinnati lost away to New York Red Bulls. Atlanta United’s win came right after a 3-0 triumph over Motagua in the Concacaf Champions League, and with two earlier matches before their league game, Atlanta were definitely the fitter of the two. They will now be at home to face a side that they have not lost to before. The two have met twice before and Atlanta registered a 2-0 win in the second after an earlier 1-1 draw. While they will be favorites, playing at home, Atlanta United have to contend with key man Josef Martinez missing out for long after sustaining injury in the second half of the opening game. Atlanta have four wins and a loss in their last five MLS matches and have scored in all of these. They finished last season on a low, with a 2-1 loss to Toronto but will hope to build from the positive start.

On the other hand, despite their loss, Cincinnati has a lot of positives to look at from their opening match. New York Red Bulls was a much stronger opponent but Cincinnati did give a good effort, scoring twice in a 3-2 loss, especially after going to the break trailing 2-0. They don’t have time to lick wounds though, as they have another tough away match to prepare for again. What should concern Cincinnati more is their defensive discipline. In their last three matches, inclusive of preseason friendly matches, they have conceded three goals in each, though they have managed to score as well. They have not had a very good run in the MLS in recent times; in their last 15 league matches, they have managed just one win. They finished last season without a win in four matches while they had lost nine of 14.
