The Indian Super League 2024-25 season is all set for a grand start as last season champions Mumbai City travel to last year League Shield winners Mohun Bagan. This match at the Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata on Friday will set the ball rolling for this new campaign, so read on to find out our prediction.

Mohun Bagan won the League Shield in the regular season last year, incidentally with a win in the final league match over Mumbai City. Yet they failed in the big match, losing 3-1 in the final. That gives an edge to Mumbai over Bagan, as they have seven wins out of ten ISL fixtures between these sides, drawing two and losing just one.

The Mariners have made a splash in the off-season by adding Lalengmawia Ralte from Mumbai, giving them an even stronger midfield core. With players like Jason Cummings, Greg Stewart, Petratos, and Maclaren up top, Bagan looks set for an aggressive start.

Defending champs Mumbai aren’t far behind, having added some good players themselves. Jon Toral, a former La Masia graduate, joins the side with top-flight experience in Spain, Greece, and Scotland. The Islanders have also added Brandon Fernandes from FC Goa on a free transfer to make up for the transfer of Ralte to Bagan.
