Athletic Bilbao will seek to get back to winning ways when they host lowly Almeria on Friday in La Liga. After eight rounds of play, Bilbao sit sixth in the standings while Almeria are rock bottom. Athletic Club haven’t lost to Almeria in 14 years. They have won nine of the last 10 meetings between the two. This will have them confident of bouncing back from last weekend’s loss in the Basque derby. Ernesto Valverde’s charges were humbled 3-0 away to rivals Real Sociedad with the defeat ending a six-match unbeaten run. Bilbao have won four matches thus far in the league with two of those coming with them as hosts. They have amassed 14 points and have a two-point cushion in sixth place.

Almeria are struggling to find their footing and look like they will be fighting relegation again this season. The Rojiblancos are the only team yet to win and have lost five of their eight matches. This unwanted start saw Vincente Moreno relieved of his duties as manager two matchdays ago after a resounding 5-1 loss away to Sevilla. Interim manager Alberto Lasarte was unfortunate not to make a winning start in his first match. La Union surrendered a three-goal lead against Granada last time out to draw 3-3 at home. Luis Suarez scored a hat trick in the match but could be unavailable here as he was withdrawn with an injury on Sunday. Almeria have won only one away league match since the start of last season.
