It's a big night for Atalanta as they play their first home game in the Champions League. It may only be the second game of the group but this is an important one for both teams. Atalanta made a terrible start to their first Champions League campaign with a 4-0 defeat at Dinamo Zagreb. It wasn't good for their opponents in this game either as Shakhtar Donetsk lost 3-0 at home to Manchester City. It looks as if these two clubs will be battling it out for third spot and a transfer to the Europa League. Atalanta are in decent form though and are third in Serie A at the time of writing this preview. They have ten points from their last four league games and won 4-1 at Sassuolo on Saturday. Home form has seen them struggle a bit though with a loss to Torino and draw with Fiorentina.

Shakhtar Donetsk lost that opener to Manchester City but spurned some good chances in that match. That must give them some hope of getting something from this trip to Italy. They have played twice since the City loss and won both games without conceding. Shakhtar have won all nine of their games in the Ukranian league this season and lead the table by ten points. Life in European competition isn't so easy though with only one win in their last eight Champions League fixtures, a 3-2 win at Hoffenheim last season. A bet on both teams to score looks the best way of getting a winner from this fixture.
