The EFL Cup fourth round has paired together these two midlands rivals. Aston Villa have had a great deal of success in the League Cup over the years but the last of their five victories was in 1996. They lost at Manchester City on Saturday leaving them 15th in the Premier League, a point and three places behind Wolves. Back on home territory will be a tough team to beat in this game. So far in this year's EFL Cup, they have beaten Crewe Alexandra and Brighton and Hove Albion. Both wins came away from home with six scored at Crewe and three in Brighton. Villa have only lost one home game this season, that was their first match against Bournemouth. Four subsequent games have seen them win two and draw two with at least two goals scored in three of those games. They will play a weakened line-up but have a strong squad after their summer spending spree. Only one of their last four home League Cup ties have been lost.

Wolverhampton Wanderers continue their busy season with a third game inside a week. All of have been in different competitions, starting off with a 2-1 away win at Slovan Bratislave in the Europa League last Thursday. Sunday saw then draw 1-1 at Newcastle United in the Premier League but they looked a tired side. More changes will be made for this game as was the case in their third round tie. They had to go to penalties to beat struggling Championship side Reading. Three of their last four League Cup ties have gone to a penalty shoot-out. Wolves are unbeaten in their last eight games but only four have been won. The tip here is for Villa to get a home win.
