Midweek action in the Premier League sees Aston Villa hosting Watford at Villa Park on Tuesday night. Both teams are battling relegation with Villa in 18th place one point behind Watford in 17th. Yet, while they're close in terms of their position in the table, the two teams are worlds apart when it comes to their form. Villa have lost three of their last four matches at home, the most recent being a 6-1 hiding from Manchester City. You might forgive such a scoreline in the knowledge that City can be both formidable and ruthless when they are in the mood. However, the other two defeats in that sequence saw them three and four-goal hauls. Prior to the match at Brighton, they had kept only one clean sheet in nine matches. Defending is an issue and it isn't being masked by goals at the other end. Villa have not managed to score more than one goal in their last seven games.
Contrast this with the form of Watford. Nigel Pearson has injected fresh energy into a team that looked doomed for relegation before he took over.
