Aston Villa will, open their Premier League campaign with a home match against Sheffield United this Sunday. On the opening weekend, Villa had no league assignment as Sheffield United lost at home to Wolverhampton Wanderers. Villa survived in the league on the final day last season and in this campaign, their target will be to avoid the last minute rush. Heading to this clash straight from a 3-1 away win over Burton Albion in the Carabao Cup is a boost and skipper Jack Grealish is in fine form right after extending his stay at the club. Grealish was among the scorers in the midweek win and will be inspirational in this game. Eight points in their last four matches last season secured Villa’s survival and they will be seeking to extend their winning run at home, having won back to back at Villa Park at the close of last season. However, with four wins and seven losses in their last 12 home matches, they still have a lot to improve on. Villa won nine matches last season and seven of these came at home. The hosts have no win in their last four matches against Sheffield, losing two and drawing two. Each of the last three matches between these two sides, played at Villa Park have ended in draws.

Sheffield United on the other hand, go to this game on the back of two disappointing results. The visitors will be under pressure here as they seek a first win in the league in five matches. Sheffield had a good run in the league last season but capitulated towards the end, finishing with three straight losses, which saw them end the campaign in ninth place. They have scored just once in their last four league matches and conceded two or more in three of those. Playing away from home rarely came with good results for Sheffield United, as they won just four of their 19 games on the road. They are winless in the last six away matches in the league and have no clean sheet in the last five.
