Aston Villa host the Premier League leaders Liverpool in this EFL Cup quarter final. All is not as it should be though thanks to a mighty clash of fixtures for the visitors. In terms of this competition, Liverpool could become victims of their own success. They are also in action this week in the Club World Cup taking place in Qatar. That means Liverpool will be fielding a vastly inexperienced team for this match. They would have fielded a weakened line-up anyway but not one that resembles a youth team with a few over-age players. Rather than Firmino, Salah and Mane up front, Liverpool are likely to have Brewster, Jones and Elliott.

Villa find themselves in a no-win situation. If they win, then people will just say they did so because they were up against a Liverpool reserve team. Woe betide them if they lose this match and fail to make it to the semi-finals. They lost again in the Premier League at the weekend but have won three of their last five home games in all competitions. The other two matches saw them lose to Liverpool and Leicester City. This is a golden opportunity for Villa and they can get the home win here.
