Aston Villa - Liverpool: Form Analysis
Aston Villa’s new manager Unai Emery has had enough time to settle in the job, having had three games before the World Cup break. He will be looking to build on the two straight wins in the league he registered. His team did not take part in the fourth round of the League Cup in midweek and will hope to recover from a just one win in four friendly matches played during the World Cup window. In competitive action, Villa have two losses in the last five matches and their last six matches in competitive action have produced over 2.5 goals. The team has conceded two or more goals in four of seven competitive games. The hosts will also wish to work on their defensive side, having managed just two clean sheets in eight games, though they can build on the fact that they’ve scored two or more in three of their last four league games. Liverpool on the other hand, are coming from a 3-2 loss to Manchester City in the League Cup, a game in which they twice trailed before losing. That defeat came right after losing two friendly matches during the World Cup month – against AC Milan and Lyon. As they turn focus to the Premier League, the Reds will be keen to build on the two straight wins they posted before the break, but they have two losses in their last four league matches. They have no clean sheet in four league games while each of the last three has produced over 2.5 goals but Liverpool have failed to score in just one of their last eight league matches. It is their away form in the league that will be a big concern here, with Liverpool having managed just one away win in their sox league games this season; they’ve lost three of the six and kept one clean sheet.

Aston Villa & Liverpool Squad Analysis
Aston Villa will be without their first choice goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez, who is on extended leave after playing in the World Cup final. The Argentinian was named the best keeper at the competition and having played all seven matches, Villa allowed him extra days off, which leaves Swedish keeper Robin Olsen as Unai Emery’s choice. The Spanish manager will also be without the injured Diego Carlos, while Phillippe Coutinho will not have the chance to face his former team, as he is also on the sidelines with injury. Liverpool have more concerns than Villa, with at least seven players set to miss this game. Diogo Jota, Luis Diaz and Naby Keita were all injured before the World Cup break and are joined on the sidelines by James Milner who was injured in the loss to Manchester City, as well as Roberto Firmino who got injured in training earlier. Curtis Jones is also out, while Ibrahim Konate returns later after featuring for France in the World Cup final. Defender Trent Alexander-Arnold was down with illness but he could recover in time for this game while Virgil van Dijk is set to return after taking an extended break after the 2022 World Cup.

Our Aston Villa vs Liverpool Prediction
Liverpool have a poor away run in the league this season and this will be another tough test for them, especially with a number of their key players missing. Aston Villa are also without a few key players and this should even out. While Liverpool will rely on their quality for this game, Villa will not be short of confidence as Unai Emery seeks to establish his mark in the team. With few clean sheets reported on both sides in recent games, our prediction for the Aston Villa – Liverpool game is for both teams to score.
