Chelsea return to Premier League action after the Premier League hiatus with a match against Aston Villa at Villa Park. Villa, 19th in the table and a point from safety, played their first post-pandemic match on Wednesday night when they drew 0-0 with Sheffield United. Chelsea are currently fourth in the table, three points clear of Man United in fifth and five behind third-placed Leicester. Chelsea have been more active than most clubs in the transfer market during the break, adding the signing of Timo Werner to the already confirmed acquisition of Hakim Ziyech. Neither of those will be able to play in the remaining league games so the remainder of the campaign will be an opportunity for current Chelsea players to establish their importance to the team. Tammy Abraham impressed in the first half of the campaign but injuries coupled with a loss of form meant that only one of his 13 league goals were scored in 2020. With those problems behind him, he could come back with a bang against his old loan side, Villa.

Only Liverpool and Man City have better away records than Chelsea. However, the Blues went into the break having failed to win on any of their last four Premier League trips. And while Chelsea have managed to rack up a notable points tally on the road, they have a goals conceded record that would put them in the bottom half of the away table (11th). This trip seems unlikely to be taxing for their defence though. Villa have failed to score in their last three Premier League games and they have lost their last five matches against Chelsea. Even if they do manage to get a goal, we see Chelsea getting more. Back the Blues to win both halves.
