What a week it has been for Aston Villa fans ahead of their game with Bournemouth in the Premier League on Sunday! The Villains began the week with a sensational 2-0 victory over Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium, a result which was a huge blow to Arsenal’s title hopes. They then travelled to northern France defending a 2-1 lead over Lille in the Europa Conference League. After losing 2-1 on the night, goalkeeper Emi Martinez saved two penalties in the shootout to give Villa a place in the semi-finals. Confidence should therefore be high heading into this game as Villa will seek to at least preserve their three point lead over Spurs in the race for a Champions League place next season.

Andoni Iraola’s Bournemouth side have been one of the streakiest teams in the EPL this season. The Cherries have tended to pick up the majority of their points in clusters. They go on a run of losing and drawing games, before having a run of wins and draws. A recent run of four wins came to an end a couple of weeks back and now Bournemouth, while safe from relegation, have now not won in their last two. They were beaten 2-1 by Luton Town and last weekend held Manchester United to a 2-2 draw at the Vitality Stadium in an entertaining game. Although they drew with Villa earlier in the season (another 2-2 draw), their previous trip to Villa Park last season ended in a 3-0 defeat to the home side.
