After their loss in the North London derby, Arsenal will be back at home to host Liverpool as the Premier League enters the 36th round of matches. Arsenal are ninth in the standings with 50 points, a massive 43 behind champions Liverpool as the two head to this game. It has been a rough season for Arsenal and the 2-1 loss to Tottenham left their hopes for a high finish in tatters. It is now two matches without a win for the Gunners and the most they can play for this season is the FA Cup. Their biggest quagmire has been in defence and in the last two matches they were exposed again, dropping five points after taking the lead. Against Tottenham, they did well in attack but poor defending once again let them down and they now have to face one of the best attacking sides, and also the best defending side in the league. The big positive for Arsenal is that they have done comparatively well at home, and head to this game unbeaten in the last seven home league matches, five of which have yielded wins. However, in their 17 home league matches this season, Arsenal have managed just five clean sheets – not the best defensive form to take to such a match. Meanwhile, they have scored in all except one of the 17 matches at home and will be hoping to extend this against Liverpool. Among the teams in the top nine that have already visited Arsenal, the Gunners have managed to beat only Manchester United, but they have lost just three of their 17 home league matches this season.

Liverpool on the other hand, having been already confirmed league champions, do not have much to play for. Perhaps they will only be eyeing a record points haul in the remaining matches but really it is all for fun at the Reds. They have a few injuries to deal with ahead of this game, with James Milner, skipper Jordan Henderson and defender Joel Matip in the treatment room but that also should not be a problem with a number of youngsters available for selection. Liverpool drew with Burnley in their last match, losing their perfect record in the league at home this season, but will be hoping for a second straight away win here after struggling a bit. In their last away match, Liverpool beat Brighton 3-1 to end a five-match winless run away from home. It was also the first time they scored in six away matches and will hope to stretch that on at The Emirates. They have kept one clean sheet in the last four away league matches and will be wary of an Arsenal side that has been doing well at home lately. Matches between these two sides have in recent times been high scoring; the last time they faced off, it ended 5-5 in the League Cup then Liverpool won on penalties. Six of the seven matches between the two sides have produced four goals or more, with Liverpool the dominant side, winning four outright and one on penalties, while Arsenal have no win.
