It has been a tough year so far for Arsenal and they will be looking to address their freefall on Sunday when playing host to bottom side, Burnley in the Premier League. Arsenal have dropped to sixth place, with 35 points and Burnley are at the foot of the league table on 11 points. The last time Arsenal won a game was on Boxing Day, a 5-0 thrashing of then bottom placed Norwich City. They’ve scored just one goal in the four matches that have come after that, and they had one postponed, against Tottenham Hotspur. Arsenal have failed to score in their last three matches and their recent slump has seen them eliminated from two cup competitions. They are coming from a 2-0 loss to Liverpool, which ended their run in the League Cup right after their participation in the FA Cup was ended by Nottingham Forest. The Gunners have been so under pressure in the last few matches that they have had three players sent off in their last four matches. This will be a lighter game, compared to the matches they are coming from and Arsenal should be able to do well, especially with a run of seven wins in nine home league games. They’ve also registered four wins in five league matches.

The postponement of Burnley’s game against Leicester means they haven’t played for about two weeks. That should be enough rest for them to get their act right here, but during that period too, they’ve lost striker Chris Wood to Newcastle and have fallen to the bottom of the league standings. Sean Dyche’s men need to show character now, as the race to save their Premier League status gets defined. Burnley’s last match ended in disappointment, beaten 2-1 by Huddersfield Town and by it, got eliminated from the FA Cup. One area Burnley will be seriously short in this game is in attack. The fact that Chris Wood left and Max Cornet is away at the AFCON means of the available strikers, only Matej Vydra (one goal) has scored this season. His return of one goal in 15 matches may not be good enough. Burnley are winless in their last eight matches and go to this game with four losses in five. They have only beaten Brentford in their last 10 matches and their away run isn’t impressive either. They’ve played 10 away league matches this season, and have no win, just four draws and six losses.
