Argentinos Juniors begin Copa Libertadores Group E with a home game against Independiente del Valle. The other two clubs in this group are Corinthians from Brazil and Uruguay's Liverpool.  It's the top two teams in each group that will go through to the knockout stages with seedings being determined by their results in the group matches. Argentinos are currently seventh in the Liga Professional Argentina. They come into this match unbeaten in their last five matches and in good defensive shape. Two of their last three games have been won and all three have seen them keep clean sheets. Home form is strong with no losses in their last seven games and five seeing their opponents score against them. They last played in the Copa Libertadores in 2021, losing to River Plate in the last 16. That was their first time in the competition for ten years. 

Independiente del Valle are top of the Ecuador Liga Pro with nine points from their first four games. It's seven years since they were runners-up in the Copa Libertadores but this is only the third time since then that they have made it to the group stage and never beyond the last 16.  Only one of their last five matches in the Copa Libertadores has been won and seven of the last 11 on the road have ended in defeat for Independiente del Valle. Teams from Ecuador do tend to struggle when playing outside of their country and this looks like being a home win for Argentinos Juniors.
