Argentina W - South Africa W: Form Analysis
The Argentines put on a very good display against Italy in their opening match and arguably created the better chances across the 90 minutes. They looked the most dangerous from set-piece plays and constantly delivered excellent crosses into the box but were unable to find a way past the Italian goalkeeper. Argentina finished second in their group at the CONMEBOL Copa America Femenina last year behind Brazil but were knocked out in the semi-final against Colombia. However, they did claim third place in the competition, beating Paraguay 3-1 to secure their place at World Cup. Since then, they have played as many as ten preparation matches and recorded five wins, one draw, and four losses. Argentina have appeared at four World Cup tournaments, including this one, but have never won a match, losing eight times and drawing twice. Against a significantly lower-ranked side here, they will see this as an ideal opportunity to bring that record to an end.
Meanwhile, South Africa were on the verge of a historical result as they took the lead against third-ranked Sweden in their last match. Hildah Magaia followed up a shot from her strike partner early in the second half, and the African side managed to hold off their opponents until just past the hour mark when Fridolina Rolfo equalised. It wasn’t until stoppage time that Sweden earned a corner, and Amanda Ilestedt stuck the cross in the back of the net to break South Africa’s hearts. However, there were plenty of positives that they would have taken from that match, especially the way that their attackers breezed past defenders with electric pace. South Africa earned their place in this tournament after winning the Women’s AFCON for the first time in their history, beating Morocco 2-1, after ending as runners-up on five previous occasions. They have qualified for the World Cup once before, which was in 2019. South Africa only won one of their four friendly matches leading up to this competition, and like their opponents here, they have never won a World Cup match. However, if they can manage anything like the performance they delivered against Sweden in this match, they will be in with a massive chance of claiming their first-ever victory in this one.

Argentina W & South Africa W Squad Analysis
While they did lose the last match, there were very few weak links that one could pick out in the Argentina squad, and German Portanova may opt for an unchanged squad for this encounter. If the Argentina boss does decide to tinker with his lineup, it would likely be one or more of Mirian Mayorga, Eliana Stabile, Florencia Bonsegundo, or Mariana Larroquette as they were all yellow carded against Italy and would miss the final match of the group if they were cautioned again in this match.
As for South Africa, coach Desiree Ellis’ main concern will be over Hildah Magaia, who scored the opening goal against Sweden. The attacker bundled the ball over the line bravely but was sent tumbling into the back of the net in the process and was withdrawn shortly after. Magaia has since been spotted in training, which suggests that there was no lasting damage and she could resume duty in this crucial encounter. Refiloe Jane and Kholosa Biyana were both yellow-carded in the previous match and will be walking a tightrope if they make the starting 11.

Our Argentina W vs South Africa W Prediction
Both these sides put on excellent showings in their first match, and despite losing, they will both be very confident that they can earn their first-ever World Cup win in this one. The Argentines are a soft favourite at 2.0, which illustrates that the bookies aren’t as confident as one might expect when considering the gap in the world ranking between these sides. South Africa’s pace in the last match was notable, and their never say die attitude was admirable, which can be expected yet again in this one. We expect another closely contested match here and fancy that it could end level or by a one-goal margin at best. Therefore, our Argentina Women vs South Africa Women prediction: Handicap South Africa +2.
Argentina W vs South Africa W - Other Interesting Predictions
Argentina Draw No Bet
Argentina are the significantly higher-ranked of these two sides and were excellent in the buildup to the tournament, winning three of their last four matches. At odds of 1.44 to win with the added safety of your money back for the draw, this could be an attractive return for a favourable market.
Over 2.5
With so much on the line for both these sides, we can expect them to go all-out for the win here. Five of Argentina’s last eight matches leading up to the World Cup ended with over 2.5 goals, while South Africa saw five of their last seven matches end over the same tally.
