America Mineiro will seek to claw their way out of relegation when they host Athletico Paranaense on Sunday in the Brazilian Serie A. After nine rounds of action, America sit in 18th place while Athletico are seventh. America Mineiro have won just two matches and have suffered six losses in their nine matches in the league. This has left them third from bottom and one point away from safety. They however come to this game while on a three-match winning run and will hope to keep this going past this round. Vagner Mancini’s charges were 2-0 winners over Millonarios in the Sudamericana in midweek. Before that, they had beaten Corinthians by a similar scoreline in the league. Sunday’s match will be the third successive for them in front of home support. The Coelho haven’t lost to Athletico in three consecutive fixtures now and have won twice. Coupled with recent success, they will come to this match confident of a win.

Athletico Paranaense also come to this weekend’s fixture in fine form. After losing three successive matches two in the league and falling out of the Libertadores places, Athletico have responded with three straight victories. One of those wins was a 1-0 upset of league leaders Botafogo. They followed that up with another 1-0 victory over Libertad in the Copa Libertadores in midweek. Paulo Turra’s charges will seek a win here to boost their chances of getting into the top four. They trail Gremio in fourth by two points. The Furacao have lacked consistency and haven’t been able to win more than three matches in a row in the league.
